Sea of Reads

Peripatetic, itinerant, eclectic musings about books, politics, history, language, culture, and anything else that interests me.

Done and Begun

Finished Wolf Hall yesterday. Loved it. Review to come. Jumped right into Liberating the Gospels: Reading the Bible Through Jewish Eyes, by John Shelby Spong.

Recently ordered and received from Amazon (in addition to above two):

  • The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot (non-fiction, about an African-American woman who died of cancer and 20 years later her children found out that cells were taken from her body without her permission — cells that never died and that sparked a medical and technological revolution).
  • The Essential Talmud, by Adin Steinsaltz (so instead of knowing nothing about the Talmud, I can learn enough to know next to nothing).
  • Jesus in the Talmud, by Peter Schäfer (about subtle and disguised references to Jesus in the Talmud).

Oh, and I just added Barbara Kingsolver’s Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life to my Very Partial List of Books I Want to Read.
